FAMILY OF EIGHT LOSES ONE TO ONDO BUILDING COLLAPSE

The tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday around 3:00am in Fanibi area, Akure, the capital city of Ondo state has claimed the life of an 80-year old grandmother identified as Mrs Grace Olom.



The building was said to have been cracked before but completely caved in while the occupants were all fast asleep. It took the intervention of the residents of area to rescue the trapped victims, with one of them seriously injured while others sustained minor injuries.
Recounting his experience, one of the survivors, Olom, who lost his mother and pleaded for support from government and philanthropists, said: The building collapsed and my mother died instantly, and her remains had been taken out. 
"One of my children, who sustained a head injury, has been taken to the hospital and I was told shes going to undergo a surgery. I want the state government and well-meaning Nigerians to come to my rescue."
He further blamed the landlord for the collapse, saying: The landlord recently came and tampered with the beam of the building, he said he wants to turn the downstairs to flat without making proper provision to sustain the building.

The state commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami, who visited the scene of the incident in the company of the Fanibi Divisional Police officer, confirmed the arrest of the landlord, adding that investigation had commenced into the incident.
