Dr Akunyili was reportedly shot dead on Tuesday evening alongside seven others at Nkpor in the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The state Police Command confirmed the murder of Dr Akunyili, in a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu. The tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday around 3:00am in Fanibi area, Akure, the capital city of Ondo state has claimed the life of an 80-year old grandmother identified as Mrs Grace Olom. The building was said to have been cracked before but completely caved in while the occupants were all fast asleep. It took the intervention of the residents of area to rescue the trapped victims, with one of them seriously injured while others sustained minor injuries.
